Shared Lives by Maureen Borland

SHARED LIVES, by Maureen Borland, charts the lives of two Scottish families, Alexander Stephen, shipbuilder & James Templeton, carpet maker, from 1795 until 1950. Related by marriage; the families enjoyed enormous prosperity during the Victorian industrial revolution. There is little now that remains of these industries yet the families still flourish. Of the shipyard and the carpet factory only Moorish-Italian facade, on the Templeton building at Glasgow Green, is testament to the past, as are the memories of the ships that were launched from Linthouse.

‘The book is more than just a family history. It records in some detail the social and economic lives of the family, their friends and employees...[it] encompasses both world wars and the years of industrial progress and decline...’ Society of Genealogists,March 2007

‘a handsome job...this account tells an important part of Glasgow and Scotland’s industrial and social history...the involvement of these families in fields as different as African missions and yacht racing ensure that many readers will find something fresh and interesting here.’Scots Magazine, March 2007.
